I fell in love during lockdown*
I’ve always loved sports and the outdoors. and being a keen runner I would always choose pounding the pavements over a session in the gym.
This year the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic increased the need for me to find new ways to make the most of my one daily outing for exercise. It was then that my passion for paddle boarding was born.
In the summer months it was great! The warm light evenings offered plenty of opportunities for after work activities and as I was living five minutes from the river it was easy for me to pump up the board and be on the water within twenty minutes.
Whenever I’m on the board, my mind clears and I feel free and able to focus on the thoughts that often I don’t get to listen to.
I’ve run along the river path through the city plenty of times before, but from the board you really see the city from a different perspective and it’s beautiful. There is less traffic, noise and a feeling of complete calm. This feeling of calm lasts for a couple of days then I can’t wait until I can get back out on the water again.
Nothing compares to the feeling you get after a paddle. Be it a nice, relaxing slow drift on the water with friends chatting and chilling. Or turning it into a workout, pushing hard to see how far and fast you can go. No matter what, you are still working all those muscles and your core and that feels great!
Norfolk Paddle Boards has made the sport easily accessible. Lee is a super friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, accommodating and professional. He has created a community of paddle boarding fans and made this sport accessible to many other city folk like me who may have not considered it otherwise.
